The 2007 Pauls Place Calendar

The idea of Paul’s Place producing a nude calendar was first thought of four years ago. When ITV visited Paul’s Place earlier this year to report on our buy a brick campaign, we talked to them about our dream.

Our buy a brick campaign was launched to raise funds for the building of our new purpose built centre, which is expected to cost in the region of £450,000. We hope that everyone in Bristol will donate £1 for one brick to help enable the disabled in our community by providing them with a place of their own - Paul’s Place.

ITV encouraged us to proceed with the nude calendar idea and have assisted us in many ways. We discovered that the calendar would be a unique project which would challenge people’s perceptions of disability and also help us to raise the funds we need for our new building.

ITV helped by finding a fantastic, well established photographer, Theo Chalmers, and also allowed us to use one of their studios, free of charge.

After much soul searching and debate, 27 members, relatives, staff and volunteers agreed to take part.
The people taking part were excited, but also very apprehensive about the photo shoot. Theo was very thoughtful and kind and soon made them feel comfortable and relaxed. What we had never envisaged was the feeling of enlightenment the photo shoot would give our members and how proud it would make them feel about themselves.

The tasteful photographic images we received were far in excess of what we ever anticipated. These will hopefully be displayed in our first exhibition in 2007 so watch this space…….more details to follow

This project was undertaken to change people’s views on disability and, although the calendar may prove to be controversial, we are proud of whom we are and want to show that we are all born equal and make other people learn to embrace our differences. The calendar project has given our members more confidence about their place in society; this in turn allows them to grow emotionally and will give them the opportunity to fulfil their dreams and aspirations.
