Our big move to Shire Way is still happening.

We’re taking exciting steps towards moving into our very own building at Shire Way, Yate in South Glos.

The Shire Way Community Centre we brought (with legacy funding) was left untouched since 2022.

We’re bringing it back to life as our very own Paul’s Place Hub.

We will repurpose the building tailored specifically for physically disabled adults, which will create the space, facilities and opportunities we need to thrive.
After much anguish, delays and hard work, we finally got the keys and sorted the lease.

But many more volunteer hours and extra funds are needed to get us in by Autumn 2025.

Sue Milkins doing Physiotherapy at the Brightwell Centre.

Meet Sue Milkins

Sue has cerebral palsy and myopathy, which effects the muscles we control. Sue tolerates the arthritic pain in her arms and shoulders, and she lives with cataracts in both eyes.

Every week, Sue looks forward to physiotherapy. The sit to stand exercise enables Sue to walk along the parallette bars unaided. Sue developed myopathy later in life, which made her wheelchair dependent for fourteen years. Sue said,

“I felt ecstatic, I can’t believe I did it”

Sue can now see a future in getting herself out of bed and into her wheelchair without a hoist. Our Paul’s Place Hub will included a physiotherapy and a sensory room. Rather than having physio whenever the funding allows. Sue would have everything she needs in one place while building her confidence and skills to approach and connect with her wider community. She said,

“I wonder if more physiotherapy sessions could improve my chances to walk again?”

Our Raise the Roof campaign hit the local and regional news, as thieves stole lead from the roof, causing us a £6K set back. The roof was our only saving grace,  as it didn’t need any work.  Our appeal raised almost £2K. It clearly shows with your support what we can achieve for physically disabled adults.

To open a centre that creates the perfect space to support physically disabled adults with daily activities while getting the local community involved. We have  plans for a community café and an allotment. Our new building will enable an in-house accessible gym, music room, sensory room and much more with your support.

Opportunities for Physically Disabled Adults

Our big move to Paul’s Place Hub in Shire Way, will drastically increases our opportunities for physically disabled adults. Here are a few examples:

  • Having a community café and garden for learning life skills.
  • Being part of a community and bringing the community in.
  • No time restrictions, so we can increase what we do and continue our projects.
  • More space to support more people who need us.
  • More toilet space and toilet facilities (for example, having extra ceiling hoist).
  • Our members can access the whole building, with quiet spaces.
  • Having extra space for displaying and possibly selling our work.
  • Having space for regular in-house archery, Boccia and physical activities – saving us money in venue hire.
  • We can control the temperature and lights to protect those with sensitivity and health issues.
