Hi, I am Nicole Beebee, and I have been a trustee at Paul’s Place since 2021.
I have always been passionate about charities and community work. My background is in fundraising and charity management, and I currently work as the Gloucestershire Community Fundraising Executive for Midlands Air Ambulance. I am also a Parish Councillor, so giving back really is at the heart of what I do!
What made you want to become a trustee at Paul’s Place?
I first heard about Paul’s Place through a friend, her son started going there, and she could not say enough good things about how the charity changed his life for the better. I looked the charity up online and learned more about its amazing work. I saw they were looking for new trustees, especially with fundraising experience. It felt like the perfect fit, so I jumped at the chance.
How do you juggle being a trustee with everything else you do?
At first, I was not sure how much time it would take or what would be expected. After a friendly chat with the CEO, I realised it was something I could manage, and something I really wanted to do!
Four years later, I can honestly say it has been fantastic. I have learned so much about charity governance, met some brilliant people, and used my fundraising experience to help bring in extra support for the charity.
The board meets quarterly, and we keep in touch regularly by email. I also get involved in events whenever I can — I even took part in Jail or Bail last year, which was great fun and raised lots of money! It is not a huge time commitment, and it is incredibly rewarding.
What’s been your proudest moment on the board so far?
This year was a big one! We moved into our brand-new Paul’s Place Hub in Yate! Seeing the charity grow from small beginnings into this amazing, purpose-built centre has been so inspiring. I am really proud to have played even a small part in that journey.
Any advice for someone thinking about becoming a trustee?
Absolutely do it! Being a trustee is such a great way to use your skills and experience to help a cause you care about. You will learn loads, meet amazing people, and make a real difference, all while fitting it around your other commitments.
