The Music Train is an inclusive live music project that brings people together through relaxed, accessible performances across South Glos, Bristol and beyond. Everyone is welcome, people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, making it a space where the whole community can come together and enjoy live music.

Events take place during the day, in local settings, helping to remove barriers for people who may not be able to attend evening gigs. This makes it easier for those with support needs, caring responsibilities, or transport challenges to enjoy live music.

No booking is necessary and events are free to access (however we do encourage a voluntary donation of £3 (carers free) where possible to help keep the project running).

At its heart, The Music Train is about connection, using music to create shared experiences, build confidence, and reduce social isolation.

The Music Train is a unique, standalone project within Paul’s Place, with all funds raised going directly back into delivering its inclusive live music events. Every donation helps keep The Music Train running, supporting musicians, venues, and the welcoming spaces that bring so many people together. Quite simply, The Music Train can only continue and grow through the generosity of its supporters.

If you would like to be part of this journey, you can donate via our JustGiving page.

Your support helps ensure that the Music Train keeps moving, bringing connection, joy, and music to communities across the region. Thank you.

The history

The Music Train was founded in 2013 by volunteer Liz Gray, inspired by her son Stephen, who has a learning disability. She wanted to create inclusive, accessible live music events for people who might otherwise struggle to attend traditional gigs. What began at the Avon Valley Railway quickly grew into a much-loved community programme, expanding to more venues and surrounding areas and reaching thousands of people each year.

Today, the Music Train is a valued part of the local community, known for its welcoming atmosphere and daytime events that bring people of all ages and abilities together.

In January 2026, The Music Train was adopted by Paul’s Place to help secure its long-term future and support its continued growth. Liz remains an integral part of the project and continues to lead the programme, ensuring it stays true to its original vision and community spirit.
