At Paul’s Place, our Step Ahead Service is all about opening doors and creating brighter futures for young adults with a learning disability and/or autism.

About the Service
We envision a world that embraces disability and includes everyone.
Every week, over two days, you can work on your confidence, increase your independence and build friendships at Paul’s Place Hub.
Together we will focus on our personal development, social opportunities and volunteering through training and group activities.
- Grow in self-confidence and self worth.
- Join the local community and build meaningful connections.
- Learn new skills and boost future job prospects.
Our Step Ahead Service supports
Our Step Ahead service supports young adults with learning disabilities and/or autism as they move from education into adult life.
Who can access the service
- Adults aged 18 – 30
- Mild to Moderate Learning Disability
- And/or autism
- Not in education, employment or training

Able to travel (or arrange transport) to and from the Hub

Motivated to build skills for greater independence

Interested in joining social and community activities
We will support
We we will support planning for the future, building independence, and finding ways to grow social connections. We will gather information about each person’s strengths, preferences, and ambitions, and work towards achievements that we can review together twice a year.

Begin your Step Ahead journey by completing your induction and building meaningful connections.

As you learn, socialise, and connect, this stage focuses on your interests, building your confidence, and imagining the future you want to achieve.
- Experience
Take action through volunteering, community engagement, and further training. You will gain independence and strengthen your skills.
- Progress
Step forward with confidence. With increased independence, strong social connections, and transferable skills, you can pursue the next chapter in your life with confidence.
Your learning opportunities
Our Step Ahead programme will have learning opportunities in areas such as travel training, keeping yourself safe (both on the street and online), minding your wellbeing, digital technology skills, self-advocacy, and budgeting skills.
